Carlos (Charlie) Puebla, 83, of Seffner, passed away peacefully at home with family on October 12, 2020. He was born to parents Felix and Frances Puebla on November 4, 1936 in the Bronx, New York. He admired John Wayne, General George S. Patton, and General Douglas MacArthur who later influenced his decision to join the US Army. Carlos proudly served in the US Army, in the Infantry and as a tank commander in the 3 rd Armored Division in Germany during the Cold War. He served in Korea and in the Vietnam and was decorated with the Purple Heart medal and the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service during the Vietnam War. He participated in the prototype development of the laser gun sight used in today's Army main battle tank the Abrams M1. He retired after 23 years of service at the rank of 1st Sergeant and was affectionately known as 'Top' to his troops due to his seniority at his position at the Top of the company's enlisted ranks.
After retirement, Carlos became the Assistant Manager of Security at Busch Gardens and would later start his own business, MAP Stampworks, named for the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Maryann Puebla. He was a former President of the Seffner Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid marksman and member of the NRA competing in marksmanship tournaments. He enjoyed watching football, golf, and bowling playing on several bowling leagues. Above all, he enjoyed time with family and his extended family in Connecticut and throughout Florida and church friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maryann. Carlos is survived by his loving family, children, Mark, Kathy, Lisa, and David and his wife Sarah; brothers, Felix and Andy; grandchildren Amanda, Joshua, Nathaniel, Esther, and Hannah; and great-granddaughter, Candi.
