Obituary

Beverly Jean Brittan-Cook, age 73, departed this world on Memorial Day, May 31, 2021 after two heroic
battles with cancer. Beverly is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Donald R Cook; her daughter
and son-in-law Cassandra and Andrew Dijstelbergen of Cohoes, NY; and her precious only grandchild,
Isaac Dijstelbergen, age 3. Beverly was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Georgia Brittan and
brother James.
Beverly attended Plainfield High School (Class of 1966). She graduated from Illinois State University in
Normal, IL, in 1970 having achieved her Bachelor of Arts in Education, where she also met her husband,
Donald. Later, Beverly attained her Master of Liberal Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University School
of Continuing Studies.
For more than 30 years, Beverly and her family lived in Laurel, MD. In her professional life, she was a
master wordsmith and worked as a freelance writer, editor, and proofreader. She owned and managed
her own senior living publication where her skills as an editor and businesswoman were showcased.
Later, she led a team of editorial professionals with Lockheed Martin Operational Support Division and
subsequently with IQ Solutions, government contractors producing medical publications. She was highly
respected by her colleagues and lived to read, write, and edit. She took great pride in her work and joy
in the camaraderie of like-minded friends and coworkers. Always honing her sharp intellect, Beverly
enjoyed watching Jeopardy!--challenging herself with tough scholarly questions--and reading
voraciously.
In later years, Beverly and Donald enjoyed a home in Delaware and made many wonderful friends
during their periodic stays at the shore. Beverly spent sunny days at the pool and cherished the tight-
knit community of friends who meant so much to her. Beverly and Donald retired to Riverview, Florida
in 2015, joining many family members already in the area. She was so proud of her young grandson,
Isaac, and often shared photos of his adventures with his parents.
Beverly will be missed by many and here forward Memorial Day will always hold a special added
meaning for those who knew and loved her.
