Obituary

Betty Jean Scavelli
Born March 25, 1934
Died July 29, 2016

Mom was born in Whitesville West Virginia. Mom's parents were Ocie and Katherine Jarrell. In 1934 during the depression Mom's parents were involved in an auto accident in which Mom went flying through the front windshield. The accident caused Moms back to grow in an upside down question mark. Moms back was about 4" off center, and when examined by a Doctor years later, the doctor stated that "It looked as if somebody grabbed you by the shoulders and twisted your body. Mom would live the rest of her life in pain.
Mom married Joseph Scavelli from Malaga N.J. who at that time owned Scavelli's Truck Stop in Malaga N.J. The couple married on December 3, 1955. Mom was 21 and Dad was 27. The Lord gave them 2 children, Steven born in 1961 and Vickie Lynn born in 1963. Mom was a homemaker and raised their children in Piney Hollow N.J.
Joseph was the main source of income for their family. Mom enjoyed writing poems and had a gift for writing. One of her poems was published in the paper called "The Forgotten Ones." The poem was about an old cemetery that was run down and forgotten. Tombstones were found going back to the 1860's. After the paper was published, a group of people got together and cleaned the cemetery up. Mom received an Award of Recognition in 1999 from the Famous Poets Society for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry.
I will gather together her poems and put them in a book in her memory. Mom was a giver and gave to her children all the time. We never were in need of anything. As a matter of fact her last check ever written in this world was to a church called Under the Blood.
Mom also gave to other churches and charities such as Boys Town, Easter Seals, Humane Society, and American Disabled Veterans. Mom was a great cook and we always looked forward to dinner time. Mom enjoyed reading mysteries books and the Bible.
Mom liked listening to Nate King Cole, Barbara Streisand, and Big band music. But the most important thing was that Mom was a believer in Jesus our Lord and Savior. Mom prayed for us all the time. Mom was saved and Mom will always be in our hearts till we go home to meet the Lord. We love you Mom.

Betty is survived by her loving family; son, Dr. Steven Scavelli and wife Gina Scavelli; daughter, Vickie Lynn Scavelli; granddaughter, Joylynn Coss, brothers, Harry Jarrell and wife Alison and Carl Jarrell.
