Betty Humphrey of Ormond Beach died on at the age of 84 on 12/12/21 after a long term illness as her daughter held her hand and prayed. She was born in Akron, Ohio to Ruth and C.K. Templeton and spent her childhood years in Decatur, AL. She graduated from Decatur High School and attended Auburn University followed by the University of Central FL. She received a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics.
She was active in civic affairs, being a Board Member of the Ormond Beach Neighborhood Child Development Center and the Ormond Beach Community Fund. She was a member and past President of the Home Life & Service Department of the Ormond Beach Woman's Club, member and past president of the General Electric Wives' Club, member and past president of the Tillandsia Garden Club and an active member of the First United Methodist Church as the church Librarian and Chancel Choir Member. She was a long time supporter and office volunteer of Family Renew Community. In addition, she volunteered with Meals On Wheels.
Mrs. Humphrey was a retired Volusia County Mathematics Teacher; having taught at Holly Hill Junior High and Mainland High School. She was listed in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers."
She was predeceased by her son, Larry, her husband, Ronald, as well as her sister, Shirley Duchock of San Diego, CA. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Leigh Humphrey, of Tampa, FL, two nieces, Diedra and Sheri Duchock of San Diego/ San Marcos, CA and one God-Child, Katherine Goodwin of Asburn, VA.
There will be a Memorial Service at the First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FL United Methodist Children's Home or Family Renew Community of Holly Hill, FL.
