Obituary

Obituary for Betty Ruth “Cole” GreenLeaf

Betty Ruth “Cole” GreenLeaf, 92, of Brandon, FL was called home to be with her Lord and Saviour at 8:32am, Saturday, May 30, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 14, 1933 in Vernon, IL to Charles Dewey Cole and Marie Edna Zedel. Betty had four brothers: Blaine, Lyle, Richard and Dean. Her early childhood years were spent in Vernon, IL and latter years in Maroa, IL where she graduated from Maroa High School.

On August 16, 1952 Betty married the love of her life, John Leander GreenLeaf, Sr. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith and family raising three children: John, Jr (Carol) of Decatur, IL, Dianna (James) Goodpaster of Valrico, FL and Roger (Diana) of Brandon, FL. Betty’s greatest joy was her family, which grew to include ten grandchildren – Brandi, Jessica, Lauren, Sara, Robby, Luke, Chelsea, Heather, Danielle and Carly – along with twenty-two great grandchildren, two great – great grandchildren, and extended family, each of whom she cherished deeply.

Betty loved to read, tend to her flowers and enjoyed telephone chats with both family and friends. She and John also enjoyed traveling while creating many fond memories.

She was a devoted member of Life Foursquare Church, while in Decatur, IL and Cornerstone Baptist Church in Brandon, FL. A woman of deep and abiding faith, she embodied grace, kindness, patience and a warm and welcoming presence. Her faith was not loud, but steadfast – a quiet, guiding light reflected in the way she lived and loved. Above all, Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, proud grandmother and a kind and loyal friend.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, parents and four brothers.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
