Bertha Viola Oglethorpe, 81, of Riverview, Fl. passed away peacefully on December 1, 2013 in Sun City Center, Fl. of Leukemia. She was born June 22, 1932 in Marshall County, Al. She was raised by the late Cliff and Ruby Hood (Chester Moody). She had two sisters Barbara Ann (Tom Waage) of Brick Town, New Jersey. Their children Richard of Arizona and Cynthia of NY. Her sister Sandra Stone of Albertville, Al. and her son Chris Ford of Albertville, AL and Tony Ford of North Dakota and the late Terry Lee Ford. Her Brother James Hood (Mary) their sons Robbie Gay and Jacob Hood of Gibsonton, FL. She was married to the late Bill Turner on December 3, 1946. She was married to the late Elmer Oglethorpe Jr. on March 25, 1974. She worked as a Grater in Apollo Beach Tomato Packing House and then self employed cleaning business before retiring. She resided in Riverview, Fl. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, reading, yard sales, thrift stores and walking her dogs. She never met a stranger and loved talking about the Good Ole Days. She would talk across the fence with her neighbor and good friend Gail Gerhard & Family. She would also go to visit her neighbors and also good friends Dorothy Connolly and family; and the The Lowe family. She loved to travel with her late friend Raema Baily on the trips they took together and visit Pat Bill and do lunch. She had two children whom she loved dearly Regena Meyer of Ellijay, Ga and Jerry Turner (Charlotte) of Riverview, Fl. Two step children Mary Evans (John) and Judith Cox (Harrell). She had 9 Grandchildren Joann Blanton (Alabama), Harrell Ray Cox Jr. Wimauma, Fl, Crystal Cox Brandon, Fl. Jeffrey Turner Gibsonton, FL., Cynthia Cox Leon Brandon, FL. , Steve Meyer Ellijay, Ga. , Chris Evans Valrico, FL. , Shawn Turner Riverview, Fl. , Ryan Turner Riverview, Fl. Two great grandchildren Jasmine Cox Brandon, FL., Logan Turner Winterhaven, FL. She was a Member of the Riverview Garden Club since 1967. She also was a member of the Desoto Lodge of Riverview, Fl. Eastern Star from 1979- current. We love and miss you and you will always be in our hearts. Services will be held at Serenity Meadows Thursday December 5, 2013 Visitation from 6-7pm Memorial service to follow.
