Benjamin Burgos

Moved from Puerto Rico to Newark, NJ in 1962 at the age of eighteen. His first job in May Fair Farms restaurant, West Orange, NJ  was working as a busser and then joined the kitchen team prepping side dishes and his specialty salad dressing.

His work ethic was exemplary. He was late to work only once in his entire work career. He dedicated 20 years to Chevron Oil Refinery, NJ and after the closure of the company he began his second act by becoming a local bodega owner. Although brief, my father helped the community living on Summer Avenue, Newark. If families or seniors  did not have the means to fully pay for their groceries, he helped. "No problem, we will take care of it next month or after."  Upon retirement from a printing press,  his long-time dream of retiring to Florida came to fruition. He was highly active and kept himself busy in his new home in the Sunshine State. He walked three miles a day and planted a lemon, orange, and an avocado tree. He began a part-time job with Publix Supermarkets. Being the social butterfly, he loved striking a conversation  with customers and always loved meeting different people. He enjoyed working with young people because he said they kept him young.  He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church and loved the FL beaches as much as he did the Jersey Shore.   Benjamin's visitation will be on Monday, 6/20, 3-7pm at Serenity Meadows.  His funeral services will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church at 10 am, funeral following at Serenity Meadows.
