Nielsen, Axel V., 94, longtime resident of Rockford, IL, passed away on January 17, 2016 in Riverview, FL. Axel was a lifetime member of the Carpenters Union 792. He served in the South Pacific during WWII where he received 2 bronze stars. He is predeceased by his wife Josephine DeVlieger, daughter Marelee (Bob Stone), and grandson, Christiaan Nielsen. He is survived by his wife, Donna; sons, Martin and Mike (Sandy) of Jacksonville Beach, FL; and sister, Thelma Aiken (Joe). A memorial service will be held in Rockford at a later date.
