Ariel Boanerges Chávez Cifuentes was born in Aldea La Felicidad, Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. The eldest son of Moisés Chávez and Olivia Cifuentes, he grew up surrounded by his siblings Eliseo, Jairo, Amada, and Priscilla. From a young age, he showed the sense of responsibility that defined him throughout his life, always maintaining a strong bond with his family in Guatemala and making sure they never lacked the essentials.
In his youth, he served in the Guatemalan military for six years. After completing that chapter, in 1989 he began his journey to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Where he received support from his uncle Jacobo, who helped him upon his arrival and offered him a home as he began building a life of his own.
In 1990, Ariel met Vilma Flores, whom he married on July 21, 1998. Together they formed a home filled with love, effort, and mutual dedication. They built their life in Fort Lauderdale, later lived in Riverview, and eventually made Ruskin, Florida, their final home. Ariel leaves a profound void in his beloved wife, Vilma; in his daughters Erika Garcia, Emily Chavez, and Lesley Aguila; and in Daisy Flores, Samantha Flores, and Chris Flores, whom he appreciated. He is also survived by his grandson, little Adrian Bethea, whom he lovingly called “Mi precioso lindo hermoso” and he eagerly awaited the birth of his second grandson.
He worked tirelessly throughout his life, beginning his career at LSG Sky Chefs and later at Amazon’s warehouse. In every place he worked, he left a mark of responsibility, honesty, and excellence.
Ariel reconciled with the Lord at Centro Cristiano Hispano, where he strengthened his faith. His favorite sport was soccer; he enjoyed both playing and watching it. His joy was also reflected in life’s simple pleasures: surprising his wife and daughters with roses, or savoring Vilma’s homemade meals, especially her tortillas and tamales. Ariel took pride in staying fit, exercise was part of his daily routine, and he never missed an opportunity to challenge those around him to a test of strength, a gesture that brought smiles and showed his endless energy. He also loved gathering his family for a carne asada, moments he treasured deeply.
In his final days, he expressed with serenity that he loved the way his home functioned and that he was leaving in peace, confident that the unity and love within his house would remain strong.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Moisés and Olivia Chávez, who have now welcomed him into heaven.
He is survived by his wife, Vilma Flores Lemus; daughters, Erika Garcia, Emily Chavez, and Lesley Aguila; his son-in-law Kevin Aguila Gonzalez, whom he proudly saw step into the role of man of the house; and his grandson, Adrian Bethea.
Although his presence is no longer with us, his light remains in every memory, every lesson, and every gesture of love he shared with tenderness.
