Jr.
September 20, 1956 – December 3, 2023
Chief Warrant Officer Four (U.S. Army Retired) Amos Similton Jr, a distinguished military leader and public servant, passed away peacefully at his home in Florida on 3 December 2023.
He was born on September 20, 1956, in San Francisco, California to Amos Similton Sr. and Mary Similton. Amos came to St. Petersburg, Florida at an early age and is a graduate of St. Petersburg Catholic High School, Regents College, New York State University, and Ashford University.
On May 30, 1975, Amos married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Kathy Henderson. They had been married for 48 years. Together they raised two children while living a remarkable life impacting the lives of countless people around the globe. On 3 June 1975, he enlisted in the United States Army and faithfully served his country for 45 years as a U.S. Army Soldier and Federal Service Employee (Defense Intelligence Agency).
To some, Amos will be remembered as a true American hero, a trailblazer, and a remarkable man. His family and friends will remember him as a man who loved God, loved his family, a good game of football, and TV Westerns. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Amos would say his generosity, humor and unselfishness stood out in every aspect of his life. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
A devoted husband and father, Amos is survived by his wife Kathy Similton, son Amos Similton III, daughter Colonel LaCher M. Campbell (Kevin); his three siblings: Florence McLin, Sherry L. Similton and Denise E. Johnson (Lonnie); two grandchildren: Tiara and Trinity; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 28th at 11am at Rivers of Life Church, 301 Lakewood Dr. Brandon FL 33510.
Amos will be dearly missed by all that know him.
