In Loving Memory of Alfred Charles Olsen Jr
October 20, 1966 – September 15, 2025
On Monday, September 15th, our family lost a pillar. Alfred Charles Olsen Jr — lovingly known as Al or Big Al — passed away peacefully with his family at his side, hand in hand.
He worked hard, spoke his mind, and stood firm in who he was — fiercely loyal and deeply proud of where he came from. Al found joy in the simple things — blasting Elvis Presley, owning Cadillacs and Camaros, watching Star Wars and The Sopranos, and always stepping out in his Timberlands and gold jewelry. He had a style all his own and a presence that turned heads wherever he went. Though he never got to see Elvis live, he loved going to hard rock and heavy metal concerts and always had music playing that matched his edge and energy. He loved spending summers at Madeira Beach, going out for breakfast every weekend, and drinking big coffees that never seemed to leave his hand. Behind the tough exterior, he had a soft spot for his granddaughters and loved spoiling them every chance he got.
Above all, Al had faith. He knew Jesus Christ and wasn't shy about it — often sharing scriptures and reflections about God on social media. He kept multiple Bibles in his home and leaned on his faith with confidence and conviction.
Al worked for many years as a proud member of the Laborers' Union, serving with Local 190 in upstate New York and later with Local 517 in Florida. Over the course of his career, he also drove for nearly a dozen waste management companies — most recently continuing his hard work and dedication behind the wheel of a garbage truck in Lakeland, Florida. Al was also an entrepreneur at heart and most recently started Al's Super Clean Pressure Washing, a small business he took great pride in building. He loved to work — not just for the satisfaction of a job well done, but for the people he met along the way. The friendships and connections he made on the job meant as much to him as the work itself.
He is survived by his son, Matthew, and daughter-in-law, Kasey; his beloved grandchildren, Arrow and Callie; his siblings Michael, Tammy, and Brenda; and his half-siblings Brian, Rebecca, and Jeanette. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, including Victoria, Amber, Michael, and Mike. He also leaves behind many cousins, lifelong friends, former coworkers, union brothers, neighbors, and those he served through his business — all of whom will carry his memory with love and gratitude.
