Bernacki, Adolph "Al" J. 92, passed away on July 29, 2015 at the Sun City Hospice House. He was born May 2, 1923 in East Chicago, Indiana. He moved to Strawberry Ridge, Valrico, Fl. in 1991 where he soon got the name "Big Al." He was very active in the community as a member of the Strawberry Singers and the original Kitchen Band. A founding member of the Woodshop and the Veteran's Club. A WWII veteran that recently went to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight. Al served in the U.S. Army in Pacific battles of Guadalcanal, Bougainville and Leyte from January 1943 to January 1946. Al loved to travel, cook, garden, fish and most of all dance! He was loved by all, forgotten by none! A member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4933 in Hessville, In. American Legion Post 369 East Chicago, In. DAV Chapter 17, Hammond, In. Life Member 4th Degree K of C. and Nativity Church, Valrico. Retired from Inland Steel, Indiana Harbor, In. and Pro-Chem Co, Lake Station, In. Al is survived by a loving family, wife Joan; son, Ronald (Sharon) Bernacki; daughters, Mary (Scott) Polak, Adele (Richard) Howerton, Rose Marie Bernacki, Donna (David) Galeski; step-children, Janise (Dan) Wozniak, Denise (Rich) Lynch and Douglas (Kathy) Cherven; brother, Chester (Vicky) Bernacki. He cherished his 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and his many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his first wife, Irene, siblings, Clara Kozuch, Dorothy Trojnar, Maryann Everroad and Florence Black. The family wants to thank the Sun City Hospice House who provided exceptional care through the last days, peaceful and with dignity. Al's cremains will be taken to the FL National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 11:30 am at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home 6919 Providence Rd, Riverview, FL.
